About Us

In February 2018, a handful of concerned citizens convened with the goal of taking action to mitigate global warming. We decided on tackling the issue of gratuitous plastic waste given the direct connection to fossil fuel extraction. Additionally given the staggering pollution impact of plastic waste to ecosystem health, harm to wildlife and communities, single-use plastic foodware waste was an obvious target. A target easily relatable to most people, easily identifiable as a problem, and visible in a County bordering the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. We set out a strategy that began with enacting a County ordinance that would form the foundation to change a system that had evolved to a normalization of single-use plastic foodware. The “Reusable Foodware Ordinance” was adopted by all of Marin County by November 2023. Our next big audacious goal is to leapfrog to reusable foodware services throughout the County as further opportunity to displace single-use takeout.
